Victorian Fully Etched Scottish Black Watch
Dirk, Sold |
In very good overall condition, a super rare Late Victorian Fully
Etched Scottish Black Watch (Royal Highlanders) Mark 1 Dirk by Wilkinson
Sword. This is one of two near identical Black Watch officer / piper's
dirks we got from the same collector, the
other is here.

The "Mk 1" aspect is an unofficial name given to the
earlier fully regimentally etched dirks with a serrated "sawback"
back edge to the blade (later dirks had no regimental details or
were even plain). This dirk dates from 1885 to 1900; we can tell
this by the battle honours shown on the blade. It may well have
been issued to a piper of the Black Watch serving in South Africa
in the Great Boer War.

The 12 inch supremely well grey etched blade is in very good condition
and firm in the hilt. The hilt is a little aged but very good and
has all of its studs in place, with the Victorian crown to the pommel.
The scabbard with a little more age but still good. The dirk sheathes
and draws well.
A stunning, super, rare Mk1 Black Watch Scottish Dirk and made
by Wilkinson Sword. Buy it and make your collector friends green
with envy for just £? (too late, now sold), which is well
below market value. Please quote item reference U82 (0916). Further
/ full sized images available upon request.
