Sold Item Notice

Gilt basket hilt, etched to Wilkinson Sword but with no serial number, two eagles replace the normal proof slug. Very high quality etched blade with the badge of the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, most likely a presentation or ceremonial sword during their tour of duty in Iraq where they trained the Iraqi Civil Defence Corps (ICDC, now called the Iraqi National Guard). Could be converted for use by a serving officer simply by removing and nickel plating the hilt.

The 32 1/4 inch blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The gilt of the hilt is good but with some stains / surface abrasions. The faux fishskin grip is good, as are the twisted grip wire bindings. The scarlet hilt insert has some moth holes (it is fairly easy to replace this); the rest of the insert is good. The scarlet tassle in good shape. The plated steel scabbard has some small light surface rust patches and staining but is sound. The brass mouthpiece of the scabbard shows the sword was made with a gilt hilt. The sword sheathes and draws well.

I doubt you will find another, so a real find for A&SH collectors. Yours for £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference number W90 (1209). Further / full sized pictures available upon request.
