Gendeito WW2 Japanese Army Officer's Shin
Gunto, Nagamitsu, sold |
In good condition, a Gendeito WW2 Japanese Army Officer's Shin
Gunto, Bizen Nagamitsu, with Combat Cover and Knot.

The combat cover and knot confirm this shin gunto was taken off
a Japanese army officer, not handed in as part of the mass surrender
when Japanese officers removed their knots and covers. This gendeito
gunto is untouched, as it was (with some subsequent age of course)
when it was taken as a war trophy. The mei is signed "Bizen
Nagamitsu"; Nagamitsu made medium to high grade gendaito.

The 25 3/4 inch Nagasa (cutting edge section) blade is in original
untouched condition except for period use (it has been sharpened
and has some light surface scrapes); undoubtedly would be an exceptional
blade with a professional polish. Furniture all good, except for
age, a little shrinkage to the same / rayskin, etc. The sword knot
in good condition. The leather combat covers has shrunk and the
hood has cracked; leather balsam would help if you don't mind a
slight tackiness for a while. Retaining pin mechanism present and
working. The sword sheathes and draws well.
A high quality Gendaito gunto by a respected swordsmith, complete
with knot and combat covers for only £? (too late, now sold),
we must be mad! Please quote item reference number W82 (1208). Further
/ full sized pictures available upon request.
