WW1 era Scottish Highland Infantry Officer's
Basket Hilt, sold |
In aged but good overall condition, a George V / WW1 Scottish
Highland Infantry Officer's Basket Hilt Broadsword.

Etched to retailer, the high class tailor / outfitter, Meyer
& Mortimer, the original owner / officer clearly was discerning.

The 32 1/8 inch blade is aged, the etching worn but clear enough,
patina spots and patches abound. Blade moves a little in the grip
/ hilt. Basket hilt a little battered in places and aged but good
overall. Slight gap between pommel and hilt. The grip in generally
good condition but with some small patches missing under the pommel.
The twisted grip wire bindings in good order. The steel scabbard
with some dings and inert rust patches; the sword sheathes and draws
quite well despite this.
Looks like it has been through the wars a bit, and may well have
been. A good buy at £? (too late, now sold). Please quote
item reference number W68 (1195). Further / full sized pictures
available upon request.
