Victorian British Royal Navy Flag Officer's
Sword, Thurkle, sold |
In good to very good condition, a fine Victorian British Royal
Navy Flag Officer's (Admiral's) Sword and belt / buckles, by renowned
quality maker Thurkle.

Very finely etched in excess of a regular RN officer's sword and
with the acorn banded suspension rings, this a a Royal
Navy Flag Officer's Sword.

The superbly grey / gray etched 31 1/4 inch blade is in very good
condition, some small rust patches (now inert) but not so many,
some wear / staining but not so much, and firm in the hilt. The
hilt in good condition; the folding guard section works well and
locates properly on the scabbard's retaining pin. The fishskin grip
a little grubby from wear in places but very good, as are the associated
grip wire bindings. The leather and brass scabbard is good but the
leather has lost most of its gloss surface layer. The belts (by
Gieve) are sound but some od the straps are damaged. The sword sheathes
and draws well.
So rare, a British Admiral's sword in well above average condition.
