George VI / WW2 British Northumberland Fusiliers
Officer's Sword, sold |
In very good condition, a scarce George VI / WW2 British Northumberland
Fusiliers Officer's Sword.

No maker's / retailer's name etched to the ricasso, so very likely
made during World War 2 where urgency took precedent over such detail.
Though, having said that, the sword has been superbly made and the
blade exceptional is it bears not only the Northumberland Fusiliers
(5th Regiment of Foot) iconic flaming bomb, but also Saint George
and the Dragon. The hilt / guard of course also with the full badge
of the Northumberland Fusiliers which sets it apart from other 1897
pattern infantry regiment hilts.

The 32 1/2 inch blade in very good condition and firm in the hilt.
The hilt / guard very good, some very slight aging. Fishskin grip
very good; some wear / staining but not much. Twisted grip wire
bindings are present and correct. The field service leather scabbard
and frog / straps with some age and scuffing but good. The sword
sheathes and draws well.
A truly excellent example of this most sort after regimental sword.
You are unlikely to find a better one, especially for only £?
(too late, now sold). Please quote item reference number V91 (1093).
