18C / 19C Abyssinian / Ethiopian Shotel Curved Sword, Sold

In good condition, a scarce 18C / 19C Abyssinian / Ethiopian Shotel Curved Sword.

The weapon of the Meshenitai; Meshenitain fighters were trained to use this highly curved sword both mounted and dismounted.

The 27 inch (measured in a straight line) still sharp blade is in very good condition, one side with very little rust / patina. The sectional horn hilt is good, but is loose, the pommel / end being able to turn quite freely (the tang end could be removed and the interior of the hilt / grip perhaps glued or packed). The leather scabbard is aged but good (we have applied leather balsam). The sword sheathes and draws well.
