Circa 1780 British Light Cavalry Officer's
Sword, Sold |
In good overall condition for its age, a scarce circa 1780 British
Light Cavalry Officer's Sword.

The steel scabbard with rounded cavalry chape shows this sword
was for a cavalry regiment officer who bought it with active field
service in mind.

The 31 3/8 inch blade has a steady patina and some inert pitting
but is in sound to good order and firm in the hilt. The hilt / guard
has patina and a little inert pitting but is good. The ebony / ebonized
wood grip is in very good condition, just a couple of cracks under
the pommel. Grip wire still present and good; incredible! The steel
field service scabbard has a rust hole towards the chape / drag
but is overall sound. The sword sheathes and draws quite well.
A well above average example of a scarce circa 240 year old sword.
