Mid Victorian 1st West York Yeomanry Cavalry
Officer's Sword, Sold |
In very good overall condition, a Mid Victorian (1844-1889) 1st
West York Yeomanry Cavalry Officer's Sword with the officer's initials.

The blade especially good, etched with "1st West York Yeomanry"
and the officer's initials "C L W"; the officer is bound
to be identifiable with some research. The sword dates from 1844
to 1889 as they were formed in 1844 and their title changed in 1889.
There is no maker or retailer etched to the ricasso, so it was likely
bought through an outfitters without a plate made at the sword maker.

The 32 1/2 inch blade is in exceptionally good condition and firm
in the hilt. The hilt / guard very good, with much original browning
remaining. The black fishskin grip also very good, only minor wear,
but some of the grip wire is gone. The browned steel scabbard is
very good, some cleaning of the browning, some patina around the
chape / drag. The sword sheathes and draws very well.
Lovely condition sword with plenty of research potential. Just
£? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference V20 (0961).
