French 1882M Light Cavalry Trooper's Sabre,
Chatellerault, Sold |
In very good condition, an unissued French 1882 Model Light Cavalry
Trooper's Sabre, Chatellerault June 1889.

The reason this iconic awesome sabre is in virtually new condition
is because it was never issued (there are no rack / weapon numbers
to the hilt or scabbard); this sabre was made, went into stores
and stayed there! But yes, it is 100% authentic / genuine.

The 35 3/8 inch blade is in very good condition (save for a few
patina patches one one side towards the point) and firm in the hilt.
The brass hilt overall very good, some tarnish / age but just the
right amount. The original leather grip is in very good condition,
as is the twisted grips wire and this is a huge bonus as most of
these swords lost their bindings and saw their grip leather shrink.
The original chemically browned scabbard is very good, some loss
of browning due to cleaning, but not much has gone. The sabre sheathes
and draws very well if a little tightly, as a new / unused sabre
would.
Best condition example we have seen. A snip at £? (too late,
now sold). Please quote item reference V16 (0960). Further / full
sized images available upon request.
