Napoleonic French Artillery Guard Officer's
Blue & Gilt Epee Sword, sold |
In very good condition, a stunning Napoleonic French Artillery
Guard Officer's Blue & Gilt Epee Sword with Mother-of-Pearl
Grip.

No maker's name / initials but a stunning high quality epee for
a very special officer in the Imperial Guard Artillery. Details
of the Imperial Guard under Napoleon here.

The 30 1/8 inch blade is in very good condition with 90%/95% blue
and gilt etching remaining; some patina patches towards the point
but small and not too many. Blade firm in the hilt. The gilt hilt
in very good condition; some age / wear but not too much. The fluted
mother of pearl grip scales in very good shape. Some overall age
to the area with minor movement of the grip scales away from the
metal sections but nothing major. The leather and gilt brass scabbard
is so good it may be a replacement, but maybe not. The sword sheathes
and draws well.
Very few of these swords exist / remain in such excellent condition.
A really gorgeous investment, just £? (too late, now sold).
