Napoleonic / Waterloo Dutch Light Cavalry
Officer's Sabre, sold |
In good overall condition, a rare Napoleonic / Waterloo Dutch
/ Belgian Light Cavalry Officer's Sabre / Sword.

The outer brass bar of the hilt is bent inwards (correction possible)
and there is a period single good sized nick to the cutting edge
of the blade. This sabre is virtually guaranteed to have been there
at Waterloo as the Dutch army fought with the British, arguably
with more distinction and valour than the British.

The 32 7/8 inch highly curved sharpened blade is in very good condition
except for a single nick to the cutting edge plus a little bend
to the very tip. Blade firm in hilt. The hilt with damage to the
outer guard bar which, given this is a brass hilt is not unsurprising.
The hilt otherwise in good order and with a pleasing steady brown
tarnish / patina. The grip with some wear and a small but hard scuff
is in good condition. The twisted grip wire is good. The steel scabbard
is overall good but has lost both suspension rings. The sabre sheathes
and draws well is a little loosely.
A great and evocative piece with probably some history to tell,
if it only could. Under-priced at £? (too late, now sold).
