American Revolutionary War era British Infantry
Short Sabre, Sold |
In aged condition, a 1770-1780 American Revolutionary War era
British Lions Head Infantry Officer's Short Sabre.

A rare early lion's head infantry sabre with ivory grip for a senior
officer. The almost dog like lion's head and "slotted"
hilt dates this sword from 1770 to 1780, so it is quite possible
it saw service in the American War of Independence.

The 27 3/4 inch blade is in good condition and firm in the grip;
the hilt has a little movement, not much. The guard is in good order,
a little crooked, not much. The lions head pommel has a split. The
spiraled ivory grip has a number of age crack lines. The brass ferule
(grip wing) has split.
Rare sword, rare low price, £? (too late, now sold). Please
quote item reference number AF27 (1088). Further / full sized pictures
available upon request.
