ERII British Army General's Mameluke by Wilkinson
Sword, Sold |
In good overall condition, an ERII British Army General's Mameluke
by Wilkinson Sword.

Records show this sword, serial number 87131 for 1964, was one
of six sold to the War Office. It therefeore has been worn by several
senior officers but we have no idea who.

The 31 inch grey etched blade is in good condition but has some
wear and the grey is faded in places. Blade firm in hilt. The langets
are quite recessed. Grip of ivorine (synthetic ivory) in good condition.
One of the grip rosettes is missing (it should be possible to fashion
a new one if you are a dab hand with moulding clay, etc.), as is
the pommel ring through which the sword knot would pass. The plated
steel scabbard is good but has a corrected ding towards the chape
and one of the suspension mounts raises up. The sword sheathes and
draws well if a little loosely.
Not many of these around. This one clearly has seen service. Low
price, £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference
number AF16 (1071). Further / full sized pictures available upon
request.
