Napoleonic British Infantry Flank Officer's Sabre / Sword, Sold

In good overall condition, a Napoleonic British Infantry Flank Officer's Sabre / Sword.

Napoleonic British Infantry Flank Officer's Sabre / Swordimage ae90 1

Sold Item Notice

A short, very curved sabre as used by British infantry flank officers for close quarters / hand to hand combat during the Napoleonic wars. The blade has been zealously cleaned on this one but has a couple of period nicks towards the forward cutting edge which may well indicate it played an active part in defeating Napoleon Bonaparte.

The 26 7/8 inch blade is in good condition and firm in the hilt. The steel stirrup hilt also in good condition. The fishskin grip is good but with wear under the stepped pommel which indicates widespread use (this is the part off the grip that gets the most stress). The twisted grip wires are good. The steel scabbard is good but has former rust pitting and one of the suspension rings has split into two halves. The sabre sheathes and draws well.

A good example at a great price; £700. Please quote item reference number AE90 (1050). Further / full sized pictures available upon request.
