Victorian Argyll & Sutherland Officer's
Scottish Broadsword, for sale |
In good condition, a Victorian 4th Volunteer Battalion Argyll
& Sutherland Officer's Scottish Basket Hilted Broadsword, etched
with regimental details and original owner's / officer's initials.

Made by Hobson & Sons, 1-3-5 Lexington Street London circa
1890 to 1900. Original owner's / officer's initials appear to be
"S G R" but the script / font used is very bespoke.

The 32 3/4 inch blade has patina patches throughout, the etching
still visible, blade firm in the hilt. The hilt being plated has
seen the test of time and humid / damp air a bit better and is good.
The buff scarlet hilt / guard liner with royal blue edgings is actually
good for its age. The grip and twisted grip wire bindings also very
good. The plated steel scabbard has age, staining, plating bubbles
and rust spots, but is overall very sound. The sword sheathes and
draws well.
A great research project for someone; maybe the bargain of the
year. Well priced at £925. Please quote item reference number
AE87. Further / full sized pictures available upon request. Box
1022-121x19x16 (2.806).
