In good condition, the WW1 to WW2 period Royal Indian Marine /
Navy Wilkinson Sword, Solid Hilt, Commander Hedley Vicars Banfield.


Wilkinson serial number 58094 for 1919, this solid hilt Royal Indian
Marine officer's sword is the sword of then Cadet / acting Sub Lieutenant
Hedley Vicars Banfield, born in Brighton on the 30th December 1896.
Acting Sub Lieutenant 19th July 1917, confirmed Sub Lieutenant 11th
Mar. 1920, Commander Hedley Vicars Banfield saw service both in
WW1 and WW2. In WW2 he was the commander of HMIS
Lawrence (L83 / U83).



The 31 3/4 inch blade is in good condition and firm in the hilt.
Hilt and grip all good for age. Original sword knot also good. Scabbard
with a kink / slight tear one side but overall good. The sword sheathes
and draws well, and the locking pin mechanism works fine.
A very nice scarce RIM sword with provenance and research potential
for £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference T51
