Hidden away, very feint, is the name "TPR Allerton" written to the inside of the strap of the sword knot. Presumed to be original to the sword, this opens the door to researching the original owner officer. Etched at the ricasso to retailer "R Groves, 96 Wellington St., Woolwich. Serial number 16999 to spine.

The 34 inch blade is in good condition and firm in the hilt though the etching is feint. Hilt / guard are good. The fishskin grip is good but has a couple of wear spots (or maybe moth holes). Twisted grip wire in good shape. The sword knot is aged but good. Leather field service scabbard is overall good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
