George V / WW1 British Royal Artillery Named
Officer's Sword, Sold |
In overall good condition, a George V / WW1 British Royal Artillery
Named Officer's Sword

Hidden away, very feint, is the name "TPR Allerton" written
to the inside of the strap of the sword knot. Presumed to be original
to the sword, this opens the door to researching the original owner
officer. Etched at the ricasso to retailer "R Groves, 96 Wellington
St., Woolwich. Serial number 16999 to spine.

The 34 inch blade is in good condition and firm in the hilt though
the etching is feint. Hilt / guard are good. The fishskin grip is
good but has a couple of wear spots (or maybe moth holes). Twisted
grip wire in good shape. The sword knot is aged but good. Leather
field service scabbard is overall good. The sword sheathes and draws
well.
Nice example, research potential. On sale for £? (too late,
now sold). Please quote item reference T26 (0758). Further / full
sized images upon request.
