WW2 Royal Navy Midshipman's Dirk of D K L
Learmount, D.S.C., Sold |
In good condition, the WW2 Royal Navy Midshipman's Dirk of D K
L Learmount, D.S.C.

Marked "D K L Learmount" to the top scabbard mount /
locket, this is the midshipman's dirk of Dennis
Kenelm Leonard Learmount who retired a Captain with a D.S.C.
and after having spent time with the Royal Navy after the war at
H.M.A.S. "Albatross" in Australia.

The 17 7/8 inch blade is in good condition but with some patina
patches, firm in the hilt. The hilt is good but for one quillon
which is bent down a bit. Fishskin grip and grip wires both good.
Scabbard a little aged but still good; the locking pin mechanism
works well and the dirk sheathes and draws as it should.
It is nice to get one of these with provenance. Worth every penny
of £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference T17
(0725). Further / full sized images upon request.
The following taken from Slipstream, Journal of H.M.A.S. "Albatross",
July 1957 (HMAS Albatross is the largest operational Naval establishment
in Australia with a total area of 928 hectares and is home to the
Royal Australian Navy's Fleet Air Arm).
