Mid Victorian British Police Sword, F T Baker
(Gun Maker), sold |
In very good condition, a Mid Victorian British Police Sword,
marked to F T Baker (Gun Maker) London; probably a gamekeeper's
sword.

Engraved to the cross guard "F T Baker London", who was
a renowned gun maker from his address at 88 Fleet Street London
(circa 1860). It is likely that he bought a number of swords to
retail on to private customers; we believe as gamekeeper swords.

The 23 3/4 inch blade is in good condition, a few patina patches,
and firm in the hilt. The hilt / guard is also good with locking
pin mechanism working well. Fishskin grip in good order, as are
the twisted grip wire bindings (possibly added after the sword was
made). Leather scabbard with brass fittings in good shape; the leather
a little aged (cracking). The sword sheathes and draws well, and
the scabbard locks onto the sword as it should.
A well above average example for just £? (too late, now
sold) . Please quote item reference T15 (0777). Further / full sized
photos available upon request.
