WW1 British Coldstream Guards Named Officer's
Sword, sold |
In aged but sound condition, a WW1 British Coldstream Guards Named
Officer's Sword.

An elusive and potentially interesting officer story here. Blade
etched to "J M B Fletcher" resigned his commission as
a 2nd lieutenant with the Coldstream Guards on the 12th April 1917,
right in the thick of World War 1. For us that is unreal, an officer
allowed to resign during a war with conscription and with no further
information available on this person. Avid researcher needed!

The 32 3/8 inch blade etched with battle honours for the Grenadier
Guards including South Africa (Boer War). Blade with patina and
sometimes the etching is worn / weak. Blade firm in the hilt. The
hilt / guard with some wear and patina. Fishskin grip with some
wear and age. Twisted grip wire bindings good. The scabbard is not
original to the sword but fits well (we had a spare one - the sword
came to us without one). Scabbard with repaired break but is otherwise
sound. The sword sheathes and draws well.
What a potentially interesting officer / story! What a great price;
£? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference T07 (0730).
Further / full sized images available upon request.
