Rare Victorian British Royal Marine Officers
Sword, Sold |
In overall good condition, a rare Victorian British Royal Marine
officers sword, Hood family coat of arms.

With Royal Marines badge (Gibraltar per mare per terram), Hunt
family crest / coat of arms (Qesse quam videri) to the blade, this
sword dates from 1884 to 1886 courtesy of the maker's name and address
(Hobson of Little Windmill Street London) etched to the ricasso.
It therefore may well be possible to research the original officer
owner.

The 32 1/2 inch blade is in very good condition, etching vivid,
and firm in the hilt. Hilt with some rust / patina but good. The
fishskin grip with some wear / small patch loss near / under the
back strap; the twisted grip wire is good. The plated scabbard has
some plating loss, etc. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Rare sword with tons of research potential. Go on, grab it at £?
(too late, now sold). Please quote reference S39 (0647). Further
/ full sized images available upon request.
