Edwardian 16th Lancers Officers Patent Hilt
Wilkinson Sword, sold |
In good though aged condition, an Edwardian 16th The Queen's Lancers
Officers Patent Hilt Wilkinson Sword, Sir Leo Francis Page, K.F.C.

Etched "L F P" to the blade, serial number 42402 for
1909. Leo Francis Page was commissioned as second lieutenant into
the 16th (the Queen's) Lancers on a probationary basis on 2nd October,
1909. He clearly did not pass probation as he is not in the 1911
Army List for the regiment. He appears next on our radar on the
22nd December, 1914 when he achieved his Aviators' Certificate flying
a Maurice Farman Biplane (Military School, Brooklands). He married
Violet the youngest daughter of Captain and Mrs. F. C. Symonds of
Hinton Manor, Berkshire on the 12th February 1916, was knighted
while a magistrate by King George VI in the birthday honours of
1948 for services to penal reform, and died in 1951. His
photo can be seen here. Peerage
entry for Sir Leo Francis Page.

The 35 inch blade is aged with some light rust / patina spots but
still good and the etching clear. Blade firm in the hilt (of course).
The hilt with some rust spots and a little bending to one side.
The grip in good condition, some of the twisted grip wire missing.
The curved steel scabbard in good order. The sword sheathes and
draws well enough (a little loose until the end).
Rare sword with an interesting original officer owner. Plenty of
research potential. Yours for £? (too late, now sold). Please
quote item reference number S13 (0615). Further / full sized pictures
available upon request.
