Mid 17th Century English Civil War Kings
Head Infantry Sword, Sold |
A rare mid 17th Century English Civil War Kings Head Infantry
Hanger / Sword.

These are swords held by Royalist (King Charles 1st) infantry officers
(enlisted / conscripted men typically carried other weapons). A
hunting sword but with the Kings Head to the blade, so loved by
Royalists. Actually, the Kings Head is the blade maker's mark; Wundes
Johanness (the Younger) but, sshhh, don't tell the royalists!

The 18 1/4 inch blade is in good condition for its age, a steady
patina, some inert light rust pitting towards the tip, some very
old / period very small chips to the cutting edge, firm in the hilt.
The single shell hilt aged but overall good, the stag horn grip
is aged and worn but with no bits broken off.
