                | Mid 17C Northern European Walloon Sword,
                    Passau Wolf, Sold | A Mid 17C Northern European Walloon Sword, Passau Wolf, 1414 Talisman,
              hilt marked "Solicard".

 The meaning of the often seen "1414" next to the Passau
              Wolf on sword blades has long been debated. It appears this is not
              a year, but a talismanic (good omen) number. What is interesting
              about this sword is the fact there is a name inscribed to the hilt;
              it looks like "Solicard", perhaps the original owner's
              name, but you make your own mind up.

 The 32 3/4 inch blade is in very good condition for its age, there
              is a slight bend approximately half way down but this could possibly
              be easily corrected if desired. Blade firm in the hilt. The hilt
              in very good order with no apparent damage. The brass twisted wire
              grip and ferrules are likely to be more recent replaced, but are
              in good order in any event. Look, lesser swords sell elsewhere for £2500. Our price is
              just £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference
              R58 (0525). Further / full sized images available upon request..
