French 1845 Model Infantry Officer's Sword,
dated April 1878, Sold |
In good condition, a horn grip French 1845 Model Infantry Officer's
Sword, dated April 1878

With a good steel field service scabbard, this sword was made by
Chatellerault in 1878.

The 30 1/4 inch twin fullered blade is in good condition (a little
rust towards the point) and firm in the hilt. The hilt is in good
shape. The horn grip is in good condition though the twisted grip
wire has gone. The quite heavy single suspension ring steel scabbard
is good but with age and some light pitting here and there. The
sword sheathes and draws well of a little loosely. There is a decommissioning
drill hole in the scabbard chape / drag (this was an issued sword,
not a private purchase).
A good example. A good price; £? (too late, now sold). Please
quote item reference R35 (0505). Further / full sized images available
upon request.
