WW2 Japanese Army Officer's Katana for Military
Use, Sold |
In overall good condition, a good signed WW2 Japanese Army Officer's
Katana for Military Use.

These swords normally mean pre-WW2 purchases by Japanese army officers,
during Japan's initial expansion. The blade bears a Showa (1926
- 1941) stamp which confirms this. The mei / signature appears to
be Yoshitsugi but is not really important as this is a Showato,
not a Gendaito blade, though it still has a distinct hamon.

The 26 inch Nagasa (cutting edge section) blade is in good condition
but has several ominous shallow nicks to the forward cutting edge
and various scratching / scuffing / staining commensurate with harsh
battle conditions. The leaf pattern tsuba is good. The tsuka / hilt
is generally good, but with wear age; the menuki ornaments have
a nice blue tarnish, the rayskin is overall good if a little shrunk.
The leather covered saya / scabbard is aged and worn, especially
the kojiri (chape / drag). The small leather saya retaining strap
is broken but there. The katana draws and sheathes well.
A very good example but at a low price. Our price; £? (too
late, now sold). Please quote item reference R25 (0484). Further
/ full sized images available upon request.
