Napoleonic / Circa 1810 Scottish Infantry
Officer's / Piper's Dirk, Sold |
In good condition, a super rare Napoleonic / Circa 1810 Scottish
Infantry Officer's / Piper's Dirk, by Kennedy of Birmingham.

A rare military Scottish dirk circa 1810 (Kennedy was established
in Birmingham in 1810 and this is certainly one of his very earliest
pieces). Inscribed "Kennedy Manufacturer, No. 53 Loveday St.,
Birmingham" to the blade. The brass pommel and scabbard, plus
serrated blade back edge mean this is 100% a military dirk.
The 12 5/8 inch blade has some damage to the point area, commensurate
with being used as a tool (which, no doubt they were) rather than
weapon. The serrated edge is still good. Blade firm in hilt. Hilt
with age and wear but still very sound, as is the late 18C style
brass pommel. The brass scabbard / sheath with plenty of dents /
dings but sound. The dirk sheathes and draws well. Dirk 19 inches
overall.
A rare and beautiful example. Grab it quick; £? (too late,
now sold). Please quote item reference R13 (0479). Further / full
sized images available upon request.
