WW2 era / George VI British Royal Navy Officer's
Sword, Gieves, Sold |
In very good condition, a WW2 era / George VI British Royal Navy
Officer's Sword, by Gieves (Wilkinson Sword).

Gieves swords were made by Wilkinsons. This one is in what most
people would consider parade condition. Engraved "P Harvey
RN" to the folding guard, the only information on this officer
we found by way of a cursory search is that he finished an emergency
commission on the 4th Feb. 1967 suggesting he served as an RN officer
previously, but was called up for perhaps the Indonesia-Malaysia
Confrontation and then released again after that conflict ended.

The 31 1/4 inch slender dress weight blade is in very good condition,
minimal scuffing, no apparent patina, and firm in the hilt. The
hilt with much gilt remaining. The fishskin grip a tiny little bit
grubby, not much. The twisted grip wire bindings are good. The sword
knot in good order. The folding guard section of the guard works
well and secures onto the top fitting of the scabbard as it should.
The scabbard with some minor age (liquid shoe polish may well fix
this). The sword sheathes and draws well.
Well above average condition, so a deal at £? (too late,
now sold). Please quote item reference R11 (0475). Further / full
sized images upon request.
