Scottish Silver Mounted Piper's Dirk Robert
Allison & Son Glasgow, Sold |
A Scottish Silver or possibly Silver plated mounted Piper's Dirk
by Robert Allison & Son of Glasgow, in very good condition.

For some reason, most of the marks to the reverse of the sheath
have been gouged out; whether this was intentional or by accident
is unclear. But the silver mark for Robert Allison & Son is
clear, plus we conducted a silver acid test on both worn and unworn
sections of the back of the hilt, and they both showed dark red
for Stirling Silver (see images below), so this dirk is possibly
true silver mounted rather than plated, but our price is based on
it being quality plated silver.
The 10 3/4 inch stainless steel blade, engraved to Robert Allison
& Son, Glasgow, is in very good condition, a little scratching
towards the point, and firm in the hilt. The hilt and accompanying
knife and fork with glass citrine inserts. The piper's name marked
to the middle sheath band reverse. Overall very good. Plated or
not, this is a very high quality dirk and well worth £? (too
late, now sold). Item reference Q97 (0459). Further / full sized
images available upon request.
