WW1 era British Royal Navy Junior Officer's
Sword, Sold |
In overall good condition (scabbard as found), a WW1 era British
Royal Navy Junior Officer's Sword, etched to J Friedeberg, Portsea.

A very nice sword except for the fact the leather scabbard is pretty
much split all the way around just under the top locket. These black
fishskin (this one is faux fishskin) grip junior officer versions
are much scarcer than the white fishskin grip regular / senior officer
versions. Marked at the forte / ricasso to cutler J Friedeberg Portsea,
which means the sword dates to pre-1918.

The 31 3/4 inch blade is in good condition and firm in the hilt.
The hilt retains much gilt. The faux black fishskin grip is good,
as are the twisted grip wire bindings. The leather scabbard with
a split / taped repair and a puncture hole to the base of the lower
(chape / drag) fitting. The sword sheathes and draws well.
A well above average example for only £? (too late, now
sold) . Please quote item reference Q74 (0402). Further / full sized
images available upon request.
