This sword is post-Victorian / 1902 and pre-Edward 8th / 1936, and the only A R Campbell I have found is for a RN pilot who once had to eject from his plane.(he was with 800 Sqn FAA RN on HMS Ark Royal and he was flying a Hawker Sea Hawk FGA.4, which then crashed into the Mediterranean Sea 5 miles South of Malta)). It is possible this sword was his if he bought it at the end of George V's reign, but maybe not. So, if you want to be sure, you can research A R Campbell for yourself, by trawling through the navy lists here (go to the list of officer's page as there are / were a lot of Campbells).

The 30 15/16 inch blade is in good though a little worn condition and firm in the hilt. The hilt is generally in good condition, the white fishskin a little grubby but not too much. The twisted grip wire bindings are all present, a few lesser strands a little astray (happens when these grips are held quite often, as the single strands are prone to being stretched). Original sword knot in good though aged order, though has the metal loop part of the clasp missing). The leather and gilt metal fittings scabbard is mostly good, some scratches / gouges and the top fitting loose (easily glues firm). The folding guard section locates properly onto the top fitting of the scabbard. The sword sheathes and draws well.

A nice sword at a nice price; £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference number Q09 (0339). Further / full sized images upon request.
