The Victorian British 13th Hussars Officer's Sword of R A Bolton,
in very good condition.

Wilkinson serial number 27552 for September 7th 1886 to the spine.
Wilkinson Sword confirmed this sword was sold to R A Bolton of the
13th Hussars. Richard Arthur Lennox Mussy Bolton born 21st July,
1866. Commissioned as a second lieutenant to the 13th Hussars on
the 7th March 1888. Lieutenant 11th June 1890. Captain 1st September
1896. Retired 22nd February 1899 but saw service in the Boer War
with the Royal Reserve Hussars. Captain Bolton resided as a land
owner in Clogcastle, Wicklow, Ireland. Died 1912?

The 34 3/4 inch blade is in very good condition, the forward cutting
edge (away from the etching) has been period field sharpened, almost
certainly for the Boer War. Blade firm in the hilt. The browned
(camouflaged) hilt / guard is in very good shape. The fishskin grip
has wear. A couple of the twisted grip wire turns have lost a couple
of fine strands but is otherwise still good. The steel scabbard
is in overall good condition but most of the browning has been cleaned
off. The sword sheathes and draws well enough but a little loosely.
A really well made sword in very good condition. One of the best
and for only £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference
Q02 (0297). Further / full sized images available upon request.
