1796P British Infantry Officer's Blue &
Gilt Etched Sword, Sold |
A 1796P British Infantry Officer's Blue & Gilt Etched Sword,
marked to JJ Runkel, pre-1801 British Royal Coat of Arms, in good
condition.

With worthwhile amounts of blue and gilt etch remaining, the gilt
on the hilt is excellent. This sword was made between 1796 and 1801
and therefore is Napoleonic. The pre-1801 British coat of arms has
the three fleur-de-lis in the top right hand quadrant indicating
Britain's ancient claim to the French crown.

The 32 1/4 inch blade is in good condition, the etching still clear,
firm in the hilt. The hilt with almost perfect gilt. The silver
metal grip wire is good. The folding guard section works well. The
leather and gilt metal scabbard is very good. The sword sheathes
and draws well.
A JJ Runkel blue and gilt in great order, yours for £? (too
late, now sold). Please quote item reference P97 (0280). Further
/ full sized images available upon request.
