Victorian British 3rd Dragoon Guards Officer's Sword, Sold

In very good condition, a Hawkes made Victorian British 3rd (Prince of Wales) Dragoon Guards Officer's Sword.

Victorian British 3rd (Prince of Wales) Dragoon Guards Officer's Swordimage P95 1

Sold Item Notice

"To the Queen. Hawkes & Co, Piccadilly, London" etched to the ricasso / forte, with the 3rd Dragoon Guards badge and VR cypher to the blade, this sword was made for use, although never was (as the blade was not sharpened), courtesy of the (patent) leather grip over fishskin. A very robust and well made sword indeed, as you would expect from Hawkes.

The 35 1/2 inch blade is in very good condition, though some black rust to the spine. Blade firm in the hilt. The hilt / guard good. The patent leather grip looks new, so this sword was never used for anything but dress once or twice most likely. Grip wire in good order. The steel scabbard is browned though with some areas of wear. The sword sheathes and draws exceptionally well, a smooth, satisfying, increasingly firm end sheathing.

A lovely well, well, well above average example! Well under-priced at only £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference number P95 (0279). Further / full sized pictures available upon request.
