French 1821M Klingenthal / Coulaux Infantry
Officer's Sword, sold |
In good overall condition, a French 1821M Klingenthal / Coulaux
Infantry Officer's Sword, circa 1835

The blade's spine inscription "Manufre Rle du Klingenthal"
has been rubbed down to remove the date, probably as this blade
was made at the Klingenthal factory in 1835 / 1836 which closed
down in preference of the associated Coulaux Frères factory.
We know this because the poinçons
are for Coulaux Frères and Charles Schmitt (inspector) 1835/1836.

The 29 9/16 inch blade is in good condition and firm in the hilt.
The hilt also good. The hardwood grip has some chips / loss and
is a little faded, the twisted grip wire is still there and good.
The leather and metal fittings scabbard is fairly good (period twine
and pitch reinforcement repair). The sword sheathes and draws well.
Interesting sword because it comes from the Klingenthal to Coulaux
Frères transitional period. Well worth £? (too late,
now sold). Please quote item reference P38 (0242). Further / full
sized images available upon request.
