1899P Boer War Surrey Imperial Yeomanry Trooper's
Sword, Sold |
In very good condition, regimentally marked to the Surrey Yeomanry
and dated 1901, a Boer War service 1899 pattern British cavalry
trooper's sword by Enfield.

Marked "SY" and "Y" to the inside of the bowl
guard, this sword was issued to a trooper in the Surrey (the Princess
of Wales's) Imperial Yeomanry in 1901 (blade is marked '01) as they
went to fight against the Boers in South Africa. Made by Enfield
(marked "EFD") and with several inspection marks, plus
the obligatory '99 pattern mark to the blade's spine, this sword
is in well above average condition given its active service history.

The 33 1/2 inch blade is in very good condition and firm in the
hilt. The bowl guard with light pitting from age. The grip with
some wear / age but still good. The steel scabbard with some age
and a small ding but otherwise very good, and the sword sheathes
and draws very well.
This is a well above average example of a true Boer War 1899P,
and it can be yours to hold for only £? (too late, now sold).
