1895P Victorian British Infantry Officer's
Presentation Sword, sold |
In good to very good condition, a Wilkinson made 1895 pattern
British infantry officer's presentation sword.
The reason this sword is in such good condition, is it is quite
clearly a retirement gift; marked simply "From D Company".
Blade serial number 32624 for 1894, it is probably one of the very
first 1895P's ever made, obviously. It may be possible to determine
who the recipient was by paying to have the Wilkinson sales ledger
researched; this may identify the regiment and then by looking at
the Army List for that regiment's D Company, you would hopefully
learn the recipient's name.
32 Inch blade in good condition, the etching still vividly clear.
Blade firm in the hilt. The steel hilt mostly very good, some scuffing
and slight nicks to the edge. Grip very good; twisted grip wire
present and correct also. Some aging to steel backstrap. Later leather
sword knot. The original leather scabbard is aged but sound, good
condition. The sword sheathes and draws well.
A beautiful sword, and yours for only £xxx (too late - now
sold - original sales price divulged for small fee). Please quote
item reference number N88 (1339). Further / full sized pictures
available upon request.
