WW1 era Wilkinson (Southsea) British Royal
Navy Officer's Sword, Sold |
In good condition, a scarce Wilkinson Southsea British Royal Naval
Officer's Sword, WW1 era.

Marked at the ricasso "Wilkinson & Co, St James's St,
Southsea" (Wilkinson & Co, 16 St James's Street, Southsea),
this Wilkinson was a retailer, not a maker, and the sword was not
made by the more famous Wilkinson Sword (as there is no serial number).
This sword is actually therefore a very rare item, as Wilkinsons
of Southsea would not have sold that many swords, whereas Wilkinson
Sword sold them by the thousands of course.

The 31 1/4 inch blade is very nicely grey etched and remains in
good condition, some patina spots but not too many. The hilt is
in good order. The grip a little grubby but good. Original sword
not included, in aged and worn condition. The folding guard section
of the hilt works well and locates properly on to the retaining
pin on the top locket of the scabbard. Scabbard aged and with wear
and a kink. Sword sheathes and draws well.
A great example for only £? (too late, now sold). Please
quote item reference N36 (1313). Further / full sized images available
upon request.
