Early Victorian British RN Officer's Pipeback
Sword, Sold |
An early Victorian British Royal Naval officer's pipeback sword
with quill point.

It is rare to find these early Victorian, circa 1840, swords in
such good condition with the etching still fairly clear.

28 5/8 Inch blade is in very good condition for its age. Although
aged / worn, the etching is still clear, especially the fouled anchor.
Blade firm in hilt. The hilt / guard with some worthwhile gilt remaining.
The fishskin grip good but the grip wire bindings a little wayward
in places. The folding guard works well. No maker's name but this
is quite common as the makers / cutlers often just put their details
on the scabbard, which is absent for this sword.
Nice sword for only £xxx (too late, now sold - original sales
prive divulged for small fee). Please quote item reference M71 (1273).
