Rare 1850P British Dundas with HC markings,
sold |
In overall good condition, Deakin made 1850 pattern British artillery
Dundas with "HC" engraved to the cross guard indicating
this was a Customs, Constabulary or even High Court guard's sword.

Designed by Colonel W. B. Dundas as an artillery gunner's sword,
very few saw service as intended, but were also used by British
Customs, Police (Constabulary) and possibly courts. The "HC"
engraving on this sword therefore fits in with this, but we do not
know which service it was used by. There are no inspection marks
to the blade that we can see, so it was not used by the British
army.

The 28 3/8 inch blade has aging / pitting to it, but is still very
sound and firm in the hilt. The brass hilt with some aging, but
overall good. A great opportunity for the serious sword collector
at only £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference
number L64 (1198). Further / full sized images available upon request.
