WW1 era British Royal Navy Officer's Sword,
In very good condition, a lovely J R Gaunt & Son (late Thurkle)
made WW1 era British Royal Navy officer's sword.
A beautiful sword by one of the top makers of the era and, apart
from a few small patina spots and other blemishes, it is hard to
believe this sword is around 100 years old.
The 31 inch grey etched blade has some patina spots, but not too
many, and is in superb condition overall. Etched to "J. R.
Gaunt & Son Limited" "Late Edward Thurkle" "London
& Birmingham". Blade firm in the hilt. The hilt with much
gilt remaining. The fishskin grip overall good but with some marking.
The twisted grip wire bindings present and correct. The folding
guard works well and locates properly onto the retaining pin of
the scabbard. The original sword knot is aged and a little grubby,
but a real bonus. The leather and gilt metal scabbard is in good
condition for age. The sword sheathes and draws well.
A great example. Please quote item reference number J75 (1136).
