WW1 / George V Scots Guards Sergeants Sword,
In good condition, a scarce WW1 era Scots Guards sergeant's sword,
with etched battle honours.
It is rare to come across one of these swords for a sergeant; a
far rarer sword than the officer's. No maker's mark but serial number
13582 to the spine. Feint / rubbed regimental markings to scabbard.
Battle honours for the Scots Guards up to an including the Boer
War etched to the blade.
The 32 1/4 inch blade is well engraved with battle honours both
sides, some patina, especially towards the tip. Firm in the hilt,
the hilt with some aging / wear but generally good. The grip with
areas of fishskin loss, most likely through being held; these government
issued sword would have had long and arduous service lives. The
grip wire appears to be all there. The steel scabbard is aged. The
sword sheathes and draws a little loosely.
