WW1 British Coldstream Guards Officer's Sword,
sold |
A WW1 British Coldstream Guards Officer's Sword, the blade in
very good condition.

A late war (1917) sword; the telltale sign being the "proved"
mark is stamped, rather than being the normal brass "slug".
Unusual in that the hilt is at a slight angle to the blade; the
previous owner took the sword apart with a view to correcting this
but said that the tang appears to have been made at a slight angle
deliberately, so he left it as is. The blade is especially well
etched with Coldstream Guards battle honours, including and up to
the Boer War.

The 32 1/4 inch blade is in very good condition, and firm in the
grip, though there is slight movement in the guard (from where the
previous owner took the hilt apart), but this should be easily corrected.
The hilt generally is in very good order, as is the fishskin grip
with its associated twisted grip wire bindings. The leather field
service scabbard has a break one side which has been crudely glued
(should be fairly easily improved). The sword sheathes and draws
well.
An authentic WW1 British Coldstream Guards officer's sword with
a superb blade; Bargain! Please quote item reference J12 (1012)
