Rare Italian 1880 Pattern Sciabola Army Officer's
Sword (Sold) |
Rare / unusual Italian 1880 Pattern Army Officer's Sword with
leather / brass scabbard.

This sword is a mystery / very rare as it conforms in most respects
to an Italian 1880 pattern naval NCO's Sciabola sword (source: Calamandrei's
book Storia dell' Arma Bianca Italiana) but clearly is not one;
the naval sword has a nickel guard shell and would have had naval
style etching, this has a brass shell and army motifs, together
with the Royal House of Savoy crest etched to the blade. I suspect
given the etching and brass guard it was a horse trooper's ceremonial
sword for the now abolished Italian monarchy during the regin of
King
Victor Emmanuel III. The 78 cm blade is firm in the hilt but
the grip itself is a little loose.Further pictures available upon
request. Item reference number 101 (93)
