Sold Item Notice

Rare and in good overall condition pipe-backed German naval officer's sword with ivory grip and fine blade etching for a senior / flag officer.

Galleon etching

The 30 1/4 inch blade has fine etchings to both sides including a traditional galleon / sailing ship and of a new steam and sail powered gun ship of the period.

Gunship etching

The hilt retains quite a bit of gilt, the ivory grip in very good shape, the ring bindings (twisted grip wire) present, one with a loose stand, nothing major. The scabbard is solid but the reverse side is suffering from age with the stitching gone for much of the length. The scabbard fittings are quite good though the middle and top ones loose; the top one just a little; they could be glued. The sword sheathes despite this very well and the hilt's folding guard locks onto the scabbard pin as it should. Very rare to find such a quality sword in this fine condition overall. Further / full sized images available upon request. Item reference number 301 (92)
