1821P British Light Cavalry Officer's Campaign
Sword / Sabre, sold
In very good condition, a high quality mid-19th Century 1821P
British light cavalry officer's campaign sword / sabre.
A really well made cavalry officer's sword with the earlier wide
flared 3 bar guard (later versions were much less spaced to offer
greater hand protection). There are no maker's or other marks on
this sword, though it is clearly British made, and very well done
so too. It was quite common for cavalry officers to have a dress
and undress (campaign) sword. The complete lack of markings virtually
rules out the other options (NCO's sword, sabre sold to the US).
The impressive 35 1/4 inch plain period sharpened blade is in very
good condition and firm in the hilt. The hilt / steel guard a pleasing
brown, most likely period chemically browned, and in good condition.
The fishskin grip with associated twisted grip wire bindings are
in very good order. The steel scabbard is very sound but with a
kink / fold. The sword sheathes and draws well.
A truly lovely sword. Please quote item reference I97 (1106). Further
/ large images available upon request.
