1827-1845 Georgian/Victorian British Royal
Naval Officer's Sword, sold
In very good condition, a superb late Georgian / early Victorian
British Royal Naval Officer's sword with pipe back blade and highly
pronounced quill point.
This is a sensationally good condition and example of a early to
mid 19th Century British Royal Naval officer's sword; the exaggerated
quill point is fearsome but totally impractical for hand to hand
combat. There is a maker's mark to the blade but we can not determine
it, being so feint; we can only see "London" and the fouled
The 32 5/8 inch blade is in very good condition, despite the etching
being worn and feint. Blade also firm in the hilt. The hilt is in
lovely condition, retaining most of its gilt; this is very rare
to see the gilt remain on such an old naval sword. The fishskin
grip and associated twisted grip wire bindings are also well above
average. The folding guard is straight and works well. There is
