This is a sensationally good condition and example of a early to mid 19th Century British Royal Naval officer's sword; the exaggerated quill point is fearsome but totally impractical for hand to hand combat. There is a maker's mark to the blade but we can not determine it, being so feint; we can only see "London" and the fouled anchor.

The 32 5/8 inch blade is in very good condition, despite the etching being worn and feint. Blade also firm in the hilt. The hilt is in lovely condition, retaining most of its gilt; this is very rare to see the gilt remain on such an old naval sword. The fishskin grip and associated twisted grip wire bindings are also well above average. The folding guard is straight and works well. There is no scabbard.
