1796 Patt. British Heavy Cavalry Officer's
Dress Sword, sold |
In good overall condition, a JJ Runkel (of Solingen) made 1796
pattern British heavy cavalry officer's sword.

For some reason, JJ Runkel swords were particularly popular with
British heavy cavalry officers; Runkel was a cutler (someone who
imported blades from Solingen Prussia) and made the swords around
the blades. This one bears his name "JJ Runkel Solingen"
along both narrow fullers on both sides of the blade.

The 31 1/4 inch blade is in good condition and firm in the hilt.
The hilt is good though has lost much of its gilt. The twisted silver
metal wire grip is in good condition. In other words, a well above
average example. Who knows who once held this sword and what they
experienced, perhaps and perhaps quite likely in one or more of
the Napoleonic wars.
A great sword at a low price. Please quote item reference number
H38. Further / full sized images upon request.
