WW1 Coldstream Guards Named Officer's Wilkinson
Sword, sold
|
In very good condition, a rare WW1 Coldstream Guards officers
sword with all weather bag, initials "F H H" on blade
for Major F H Hardy.

Wilkinson sword serial number 48193 for 1914 / 1915, one of the
lost serial numbers (Wilkinsons lost 3 years of customer files).
However, the blade bears the initials "F H H" and the
only fit for these within the Coldstream Guards officer lists for
World War One is Lieutenant / Captain / Major F H Hardy, one of
the lucky ones to survive all the way through the war, promoted
several times, at least twice injured, recipient of the French Croix
de chevalier and Chevalier Legion d'Honneur (the French awarded
these for gallantry to British soldiers).

The 32 1/4 inch blade with battle honours, George V Royal Cypher,
badge of the Coldstream Guards, etc. The blade is in exceptionally
good condition except for the lower third (point end), which has
much patina. Most of this is away from the etching though fortunately,
and would be a candidate for a partial re-plating of the blade if
the patina was not appreciated. The blade is firm in the hilt; the
hilt in very good condition. The fishskin grip and twisted grip
wire bindings are equally very good. Complete with original leather
sword knot and field service scabbard, also both good. The sword
sheathes and draws very well. Finally, includes the original all
weather bag (some losses).
Our price is exceptionally good given the original owner details,
scarcity of these WW1 Coldstream Guards swords generally, and the
very good condition. Please quote item reference number G68 (954).
